Summary	ฉากหลังคือปี 1979 รูดี้ (อลัน คัมมิ่ง) เป็นนักดนตรีที่กำลังตกอับและเป็น เกย์ ที่ต้องคบหาแบบหลบๆ ซ่อนๆ กับ พอล (การ์เรต ดิลลาฮันต์) ทนายความซึ่งเป็นแฟนหนุ่มของเขา เนื่องจากฝ่ายหลังยังไม่สามารถเปิดเผยรสนิยมทางเพศได้ เนื่องด้วยเงื่อนไขทางวิชาชีพ วันหนึ่งรูดี้พบว่า เพื่อนบ้านซึ่งเช่าห้องอยู่ติดกับเขาโดนจับเข้าคุก และปล่อยให้ มาร์โค ลูกชายวัย 14 ซึ่งเป็นดาวน์ซินโดรมใช้ชีวิตอยู่เพียงลำพัง ด้วยความสงสาร รูดี้จึงรับเด็กชายคนดังกล่าวมาอยู่ด้วย ไม่นานเมื่อสังคมสงเคราะห์ทราบเรื่อง จึงเข้ามารับตัวมาร์โคไปอยู่สถานรับเลี้ยงเด็กพิการ แต่รูดี้ก็สู้สุดใจขาดดิ้น เพื่อให้สิทธิการเลี้ยงดูนั้นตกเป็นของตัวเอง โดยขอร้องแกมบังคับ พอล ให้ช่วยเหลือ ในยุคที่ เกย์ ยังคงเป็น สิ่งแปลกปลอม ของสังคม การกระโดดข้ามกำแพงอุปสรรค เพื่อร้องขอสิทธิในการเป็น พ่อแม่ ดูเป็นสิ่งที่ท้าทายและสั่นคลอนบรรทัดฐานของสังคมในยุคนั้นพอสมควร.
