Summary
Twenty-one years ago when Jim Obergefell walked into a bar in Cincinnatti and sat down next to John Arthur, the man who would become the love of his life, he had no way of knowing that following the sad loss of John to Motor Neurone Disease his fight to have their marriage recognised on John's death certificate would lead him from the courthouses of Cincinnati to the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court and ultimately into the history books. Jim Obergefell is representative of the 32 plaintiffs in the case "Obergefell v Hodges", arguably the biggest civil rights case of our time, which in June this year saw same-sex marriage recognised across every US state.
